Biography

Hi, My name is Kimberly. I have been running Kim's Kids Playhouse and Preschool from my home since September, 1992.  I married my husband, Rob on Valentine's Day, 1981. http://kimskids.net/images/wb01113_.gifI was born and raised in Omaha, and spent many years in Independence, Missouri with my husband's family. We moved back to Omaha when our family started to grow and have found Omaha a great place to raise children. We have four children, and three wonderful grandchildren.

I graduated from Burke High School in 1975. I took Elementary Education courses at the College of Saint Mary's in Omaha. I settled into accounting for the banking field, utilizing a reporting and mortgage background. When my family began growing, I taught Sunday School for over six years, beginning in the preschool area and following my girls through their fourth and fifth grade classes. I was responsible for the lesson plans weekly and thoroughly enjoyed the teaching environment and experience.

As the girls got older, I was the co-leader in their Girls Scout Troop #361 for over eight years, Brownies through Cadets. We camped, created, marketed, and sold our way to a trip to Mall of America with 35 girls. We rented a bus, stayed in a Minnesota Girl Scout Camp, ate at Planet Hollywood, sang and had the time of our lives. It was a great experience, which made friendships and bonds that have lasted through today.

After my two boys were born, it was harder and harder to find a daycare situation I was comfortable with. When I couldn't find in a daycare what I wanted for my own children. I set out to provide a loving home environment that includes the lesson plans and stimulating activities for the kids, an atmosphere of fun, a place full of love and where children feel at home, safe and included. I maintain a clean, healthy safe home with a great place to explore inside and outside.

I have been licensed by the State of Nebraska for over 33 years. I am a member of the Nebraska Family Child Care Association and Omaha Association for the Education of Young Children (OAEYC) and the Nebraska Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC).  I am a partner in the Early Childhood Consortium of the Omaha AreaI received the National Association for Family Child Care Leadership Award in 2013. I served on the board of the Nebraska Association for Family Child Care for two years. I served on the board of the Child Care Share Provider Group for over three years. I participate in the Nebraska Step Up to Quality program. I am currently serving on the Child Care Advisory Committee to the Department of Health and Human Services.

I have taken the Nebraska Nutrition and Physical Activity for Child Care Program (NAPSACC) which creates healthy eating habits and reinforces the importance of physical activity for early childhood programs. I am First Aide trained and CPR qualified. I have competed over 420 hours in continuing education as an Early Childhood Professional. I maintain memberships to many Child Care Provider Groups, which I attend for monthly in-service training classes. This also has given me wonderful opportunities to commune with other providers and get new perspectives and ideas as well as problem solve. I have also provided training seminars and educational classes for other providers.

Kim’s Kids Playhouse and Preschool incorporates each of the eight domains of Development and Learning found in the Early Learning Guidelines, in my entire curriculum. I firmly believe and maintain the Nebraska Core Competencies for Early Childhood Professionals.  I incorporate the Get Set For School, Pre-K Language/Literacy, Readiness/Writing, and Numbers/Math  preschool curriculum, which is used throughout the District 66, Omaha Public, and Papillion School Districts. I completed a 17 hour course on Heads Up Reading, to include literacy opportunities in everyday activities. I completed the Boys Town Positive Parenting Class which has become a priceless tool in my daycare, where I gained the tools to teach healthy social/emotional skills and building self-esteem in children. My skills have created a quality child care opportunity, with a positive learning environment where children can be creative, curious, grow, and thrive.

It is absolutely wonderful to be able to wake up every day and do something I absolutely love. I strive for a professional atmosphere in a home setting and try to make each day something special for the children. I love seeing their smiling faces first thing in the morning, and am so excited to have them be a part of my day. I am completely honored to have been a part of so many wonderful families over the years and I hope to continue to make a difference in children's and parent's lives.
